JULIE WINS BIGGEST RACE OF HER CAREER !!
Article Published : 05/05/09
JULIE COOK JOINED DAVE IN SEPTEMBER LAST YEAR, AND DAVE KNEW IMMEDIATELY HE HAD A "TOP DRAWER" BIKE RIDER ON HIS BOOKS AND ONE VERY "SPECIAL" ATHLETE!!... JULIE WAS ON THE COME-BACK TRAIL AND HAD PREVIOUSLY ONLY WON ONE ROAD RACE.. THE "CHESHIRE CLASSIC" IN 2002...
JULIE HAD AN AMAZING WINTER WITH SOME GREAT "BASE WORK" AND SHE WENT FOR TWO VERY HILLY RIDES WITH DAVE INTO WALES (something open to any of Dave's athletes) ... DAVE COULDN'T BELIEVE JUST HOW STRONG JULIE WAS, ESPECIALLY ON THE CLIMBS... EVEN MORE PROOF TO DAVE THAT 2009 WAS GOING TO BE "JULIE'S YEAR!"...
So Julie hit the ground running at the start of the season and had some great TT results.. But it was the road where Dave knew she would shine and after a very aggressive ride in the Cheshire Classic race last week where Julie was the strongest rider in the field by far, the race came down to the usual bunch sprint! Julie had attacked too many times to have anything left at the finish... But, no matter, the Bedford Two-Day was coming up the next week as the next round of the Women's National Series and Dave wanted Julie to really show in this event...
WELL, SHOW ? ... SHE DID !... She won the opening Team Time Trial, she was second in the second Road Stage and then Second in the Individual TT ... On the last stage , holding the Leaders Jersey she just had to watch those closest to her on GC, which she did with aplomb and took her first win for SEVEN YEARS...
AND WHAT A WIN !!... AN EMPHATIC DRUBBING OF A TOP CLASS 80 strong field, including a National Dutch Team.... Just signs of better things to come as far as Dave is concerned... FANTASTIC WIN JULIE !!!
CAROLE GANDY marches on into her best season ever with yet another win in the KCA 10 mile TT where she demolished the Women's field with a 3 minute margin over the second placed Woman.. Needless to say Carole won the Vets prize on the way !! .... WHAT A START TO 2009 CAROLE... It'S GOING TO BE A CRACKER....
