"In May 2005 at the age of 57 I had committed myself to a lone ride from Lands End to John O’Groats for Charity. Suddenly the trip was looming and I was not fit. The plan was to complete the trip in 15 days doing around 65 mile a day. My training at that time consisted of Spinning in the Gym once or twice a week and a ride of 30/45 miles at the weekend. This inadequate schedule was interrupted in December 2004 by a serious operation on my right leg. This meant I could do no training at all until the end of January 2005. Starting back on my previous schedule I soon realised that this was not going to get me fit quickly enough to complete the ride let alone enjoy it, I needed expert help.
Someone had told me about David Lloyd but as an inexperienced and occasional weekend Cyclist I had some trepidation about approaching a top Cycling Coach and ex Professional for help and advice. However my whole grand plan was in jeopardy so I plucked up the courage and phoned him.
Dave was great on the telephone, he put me at ease straight away and gave me the feeling that he was taking me seriously. We arranged a consultation and ramp test from which Dave worked out a full training schedule for me based around my life and work routines. It is amazing what you can fit in your day if you take this professional approach to time management. The meeting was great fun and I picked up a lot from just talking things through with Dave. (I had never heard of cadence.)
Dave looked in detail at everything I was doing and made changes to the set up of my Bike and my riding position. He set weekly goals and targets and even gave some good dietary advice. Dave made me feel like one of his elite riders and the whole meeting gave an enormous boost to my confidence and enthusiasm.
I only had 2 months to the ride but I followed Dave’s training schedule to the letter. It was hard work but my fitness levels gradually got better than they had been for 25 years. I completed the ride exactly as planned thanks to Dave, he made it possible and enjoyable for me. I thoroughly recommend his services to cyclists at any level. If you have a goal you want to achieve I believe Dave will find a way to make it happen for you."
