At 17 “real life” got in the way of cycling. I had been useful as a schoolboy, but drifted out of the sport rarely giving it a thought.
Fast forward to age 35 and courtesy of a day watching the tour in the Pyrenees I was back on the bike again! After a year playing with it for a season I decided to contact Dave in November 2004 to see if he was prepared to take me on. There are few people I can recall being in awe of, just meeting Dave had be buzzing.
After an initial consultation we were down to the business of winter base. The only thing that got me through it was Dave’s clear enthusiasm for the task. The winter turned to spring, the intervals started and all my clothes needed replacing – I’d lost 10Kg!
Words are words, but numbers are numbers
10 Mile PB without Dave 23.16 – with Dave 20.48
25 Mile PB without Dave 1.02.50 – with Dave 54.00
50 Mile PB without Dave 2.06.40 – with Dave 1.53.12
From the first race in 2005 I was finding several minute improvements in events I had rode the year before. I cannot explain how happy I was with a first 25 Mile time under Dave’s guidance – 55.59
Make no mistake; the training takes time and commitment. I fully understood working hard led to success before meeting Dave. I believe it more than ever now.
Cycling is not my life; it has to fit around everything else. Dave will give you everything you read from his other testimonials. The most important thing I get from Dave is knowing that not a minute spent on the bike is wasted.
I will be using the time management and relaxation principles I’ve learnt long after I’ve finished racing.
