Chris Carver
It is often said that Dave only coaches elite or World Champion contenders. This is so far from the truth. Chris Carver joined Dave in May 2003 when he weighed 96 Kg.
Dave and Chris discussed diet and fat burning training and Chris lost 20 KG "naturally" without any faddy diets and in 2004, Chris went on to blitz his 25mile PB and break the hour for the first time with a 57'40"! Not only did Chris have to overcome his weight , but his young son had been very ill at this time and had 12 blood transfusions and operation after operation. He spent most of his early years in hospital more than he was at home. This put HUGE strain on Chris and his wife, but he still managed to overcome all these problems. Then he got a chest infection that just wouldn't clear up. This was probaly due to stress more than anything.
BUT Chris battled through yet again and now with his weight at 74 KG, he had a three week period in 2005 where he beat his lifetime best for 10 miles with a 22'48" and then did his 2nd fastest ever 25 mile TT with a 58'46".. There are two messages from this story..The first is that Dave can coach any bike rider, whatever their ability and the second message from Chris is that PERSISTENCE PAYS OFF !!
