1973 Pro win for Raleigh
My first ever Pro win for Raleigh . It was on a tricky criterium circuit, with a short sharp hill and a tricky steep twisty descent to the sea front at Felixtowe.
It really suited me as the field split to bits on the hill and a small break formed at around half distance. I realised I had to come out of the descent on the front on the last lap and BLAST the last 500 metres if I was to win ... I went down it like a lunatic on that last lap and the sprint worked a treat.
I won by a clear 5 seconds!! I think Reg Smith was 2nd and Les West was 3 rd ... I was absolutely chuffed to bits to get my first win as a professional ... Great feeling!!
