1973 The Eckington GP
The Eckington GP in the Worksop area and therefore a Raleigh "home" race as the "Lightweight Factory" was based nearby.
So again it was a must win race for me. Luckily it was a very hard circuit again and a swine of an uphill finish.
I eventually got away with 2 Holdsworths, Colin Lewis and Geoff Wiles. They tried to work me over but Colin was not firing on all cylinders on this day, thank goodness and I managed to give them the slip on the last lap and powered up the last climb to beat Geooff Wiles into 2nd place by 40 seconds, Colin Lewis at around 1 minute and Les West brought in the next group at 1'30" ... So what could have been a Holdsworth 1,2,3 was spoilt by me, much to the delight of my sponsor that day ... A job well done again.
Would have been a different story if Colin had been 100% though, or at least a lot more difficult ... He was a class act on his day! So a big relief for me and a good win for Raleigh on their doorstep ...
