1982 National 25 mile Championship
My first National 25 mile Championship, and a big lesson in "Listen to your coach and do as you are told!"
I had ridden the Anfield 100 on the previous Monday (Bank Holiday) and had produced a 3.47.10. I thought my speed would have gone because of this.
Eddie told me to rest, but I "knew better" and got Paddy Ward to take me out every evening behind my motor bike for 30 miles on the rivet ... WRONG ... I rode the Championship tired and only just managed the win ... I was VERY lucky and if Eddie had found out what I had done he would have seen me down the road.
A BIG lesson learnt, to listen to your coach and not to get carried away by thinking you know better ... I did not know better and could have easily have lost this race ... BE WARNED!
