My last Merseyside Invitation TT. I had retired mid season, really cheesed off with all the pressure, but I got fit again towards the end of the year and Eddie persuaded me to ride the Invitation one more time, pitted against Darryl Webster ... I wasn't on full song and was down here on the second lap.
This is Eddie giving me a time check ... I realised I was pulling back a big 30 second deficit after one lap and "dug deeper" than I had done for a long, long time.
I rode myself literally speechless to the finish and won by 16 seconds ... PHEEEW ... Too close for comfort that one ... I was beginning to realise that my days were numbered after this year and I wasn't really enjoying it much any more!
I carried on for a couple more years, but my heart was never really in the racing after this year ...
